Cut pile carpet is best if you have pets. Pet nails can get snagged in carpet lops, which can cause damage to the carpet’s fibers as well as possible injury to your pet.

When choosing the right carpet type, consider how the room is used. In high-traffic areas, consider a dense loop pile carpet made of durable nylon. If you need maximum stain resistance, look at carpets that have been given soil and stain treatments. In low-traffic areas, you might want to invest in plusher, more luxurious carpet.

Choosing the right carpet padding is as important as choosing the carpet itself. Carpet padding adds softness and comfort while helping to minimize room noise. Most important, carpet padding extends the life of your carpet.

Indentation in your carpet can occur as a result of heavy foot traffic or because of the weight of heavy furniture, which eventually cases the carpet pile to compress. To reduce indentations, rotate furniture and occasionally redirect foot traffic.

The infamous “new carpet smell” comes from the synthetic latex binder used to hold carpet fibers and backing together. This smell is not harmful and will dissipate usually with 72 hours. You can speed up air circulation by opening windows and doors during installation or use an exhaust fan.
